Disaster Plants Overview
Disaster Plants is Hanami's S-tier zoning Style. The recent content window finally delivered a real awakening kit: regular M1s while awakened, Cursed Buds barrage, and the Shining Sea of Growing Branches domain with a sure-hit lockdown on attacks, moves, and front dash.
Base form also feels less stiff. Defense Response now lives on the Q dash, and the first move gained an aerial root variant that can bounce enemies into Root Swarm-style extensions.
Base Kit & Root Routing
Aerial Roots leave a root in place and can bounce targets, turning what used to be a dead end into a short launcher sequence. Chain that bounce into Root Swarm pressure, then use Bud Shot to keep opponents honest when they try to walk out.
V1.79 changed Bud Shot on block: it no longer pulls blocking enemies, knocks them farther away, and Aerial Defense Response moved onto Surging Thorns. Melee endlag is also cleaner, so Hanami can reclaim turn more often after close trades.
Awakening, Cursed Buds & Domain
Awakened Hanami keeps normal M1s, which matters enormously — you are no longer forced into awkward plant spacing the moment you transform. Cursed Buds fires a machine-gun plant barrage that fills the mid-range gap before domain.
Shining Sea of Growing Branches paints the arena in flower-and-branch visuals and applies sure-hit lockdown: trapped players cannot M1, use moves, or front dash. Inside the domain, Hanami's R special becomes a high-pressure beam. Domain first, beam second — charging raw outside the sure-hit is far less reliable.
Matchup Tips
Hanami shines when you can plant roots, force respect, then cash out with domain. Double Hanami looks strong on paper but still loses to bad beam timing and enemy domain answers. Against Register, punish skipped receipts; against Black Death, do not let Detach erase your setup window.
Beam clash behavior exists against Ryu / Yuta-style beams. Inside your own domain the beam holds up better. Practice clash prompts in private servers before trusting them in ranked chaos.
